About Us

The Writers' Society of Jefferson County is a chapter of the Missouri Writers' Guild. It is comprised of writers of all genre, background and experience from Jefferson County [and surrounding counties] located in the state of Missouri along the banks of the Mississippi River.

A trusting atmosphere, writers come together to meet individual writing needs and share information for the good of the whole. With an environment that inspires, motivates, enriches, and encourages, each member strives toward becoming the best in their field of endeavor.

For those who desire to work with and to aid one another, this writer's site hopes to provide a place for the recognition of local writers through publication of their accomplishments.

For our emerging writers, as well as those who have been recognized in the field(s) of their choice, a site through which the craft of writing will be explored, studied and shared with one another.

For all who care to belong, this is a group that provides assistance in development as writers, growth as individuals and a place to share --the Writers' Society of Jefferson County [WSJC].

WSJC Basics

The Writers' Society of Jefferson County is a small, but growing group of writers who regularly meet on a monthly basis for the purpose of networking and for improvement in our work.

A chapter of the Missouri Writers Guild, we share our writing, contribute critiques and edits and work to advance marketing techniques and sales of county writers and authors.

Membership is $22.00 due on the first meeting of each new year and is renewable annually. Applications for membership Applications for membership renewal

Monthly meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month, 9:00 am to 12:30 noon in the Community Rooms at the Jefferson County Memorial Hospital, Highway 61S in Festus, MO. Critique groups, board and committee meetings are held immediately after the regular meeting.

The calendar year runs from January to December.

Meeting Schedule

9:00 am...Writers share their good news, network and chat about the craft of writing/Coffee available
9:30 am...Writers share their material with one another through readings, no prior scheduling is necessary
10:00 am...a short business meeting is held with a short break following, then..10:15 Break for coffee and snacks.
10:300 am...a writing program is presented by a local or regional author, workshops including 'hands-on' writing work if appropriate. Programs for the year are listed HERE

11:30--Break Out Critique Groups in fiction, nonfiction and Children's Literature. Poetry may be available in the future. We finish around 12:30.

Post-Meeting Schedule
Board meetings, critique meetings or committee meetings will be held immediately after the regular meeting in order to avoid unneccessary meetings during the month.

WSJC Third Saturday Networking Group meets at the Festus Library (bottom floor meeting room) the third Saturday of every month 10 A.M. to Noon, with an invitation to stay after and talk writing if so desired. The group's purpose is to discuss submitted fictional or non-fictional writing for critiques and edits and for workshopping specific aspects of the craft of writing.

Any WSJC member or member interested in joining is welcome to attend, however a notification of the intent to attend is requested, so writers who are submitting can plan on the number of copies for distribution. We encourage writers of any genre, whether new to the game or having been around the writing fields for a while to attend a meeting and look us over before deciding to join. Thank you.
